1. Look in Grassy Areas. Search for it in lawns, parks, golf courses, pastures, and other maintained grassy environments, especially after rain.
2. Check for Fairy Rings. Clitocybe rivulosa frequently grows in circular patterns known as fairy rings. This can be a strong indicator.
3. Observe Cap Color and Shape. Its white to pale rufous cap, often with a depressed center and wavy margin, is a key characteristic. Note any faint concentric zones.
4. Examine Gills. The strongly decurrent, crowded, white to creamy gills are very distinctive. This feature helps differentiate it from some look-alikes.
5. Seasonality. While it can fruit from spring through autumn, it is most prevalent in late summer and autumn, especially after periods of rainfall.
